Thank you everyone for your patience while I was out of the office for personal family time to celebrate my daughter’s wedding!
The 49th Annual Blackstone Arts & Crafts Festival on September 8th and 9th was a huge success due to all the Chamber volunteers, Town employees and everyone who participated! Next year will be the Chamber’s 50th Anniversary Arts & Crafts Festival celebration!
The next Chamber Network Luncheon is Wednesday, October 10th (next week) at Noon at Brother’s Italian Restaurant on Main Street. Please plan to attend and as a reminder, you will pay the restaurant directly, not the Chamber.
Mr. Michael Melo will be speaking at the luncheon. He is President/Chief Executive Officer of ITA International, LLC located in Yorktown, VA. ITA International provides analysis, planning, training exercise, intelligence, cyber, logistics, engineering and marine services to clients operating globally in challenging arenas. Just to name a few of his interests, Mr. Melo also serves on the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, and numerous Virginia Tech Board Committees.

The Blackstone Christmas Parade is held annually on the second Friday in December, and this year the date is December 14th at 6:00 p.m. I have attached the parade entry form for your convenience.
I will also be out of the office on October 11th to attend the Foreign Affairs Security Training Center (FASTC) Informational Fair in West Virginia.

The Chamber is busy preparing for the 49th Annual Blackstone Arts & Crafts Festival on Saturday and Sunday, September 8th and 9th, 2018, from 10 to 5 daily. As in the years past, attractions include 100+ Crafters and Vendors, Merchant Mart, Judged Art Shows, Huge Antique Car Show (click here for information), Pickles & Preserves Contest, Handmade Patchwork Quilt Contest, Homemade Fruit Pie Contest, 5K Run/Walk (click here for information), Tours of Historical Museums, Kids Zone, and Petting Zoo.
The Blackstone Chamber is excited to announce that Colonial Farm Credit is the Sponsor for the Blackstone Arts & Crafts Tractor Display and Parade, and wants to join the Chamber in inviting and encouraging all Antique Tractor and Vintage Car Owner friends of Bobby Daniels to once again attend the the Festival. Due to Bobby’s recent health issues, he will not be able to participate this year. We will hold the annual Tractor Parade in Bobby’s honor at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 8th.
New this year, Scooter Cogar, of Blackstone, is presenting the Virginia Lumberjack Championship competition by over 20 World Class Lumberjacks including National and World Title Holders. The Competition will be held on the Historical Armory grounds on Saturday, Sept. 8th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Harris Memorial Armory Clean-up day is Tuesday, August 7th at 7:00 p.m. Please come and lend a hand to prepare for the Arts & Crafts Festival!
Downtown Blackstone, Inc. won the Main Street Idea Pitch during Downtown Intersections, a Virginia Main Street training event. They will receive $5,000 towards completing their Blackstone Town Square Revitalization Project. The project will add seating areas, planters, trash receptacles, and a large scale destination mural in the Town Square. The improvements will also follow the installation of DBI’s LOVEwork which is meant to leverage the brand strength of “Virginia is for Lovers.”
Don’t forget that DBI has a Revolving Loan Fund for business/property owners in Blackstone’s Historic Business District. Applicants can receive loans up to $10,000 at 0% interest to complete various improvement projects!
Clay’s Garden Center’s Wine and Beer Tasting is Friday, August 10th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Rosemont and James Cellars wineries will be present. Carl Schwabenton will be playing music for your enjoyment. Sarah Wells’ Art will be on display as well.

The Chamber’s Town Council Election forum was held on Wednesday, April 18th at Mitchell’s Restaurant. It was well attended by approximately 60 guests, and twelve out of fourteen Candidates were present. The Chamber thanks all who participated and attended, and Mitchell’s Restaurant for doing a great job hosting this event.

CB&T is pleased to offer the Robert E. Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund. This scholarship was established by Citizens Bank & Trust Company as a lasting legacy to our friend and colleague, Bob Johnson, who passed away on December 24, 2002.
The application deadline for the 2018 Scholarship will be Friday, April 13, 2018. The winner of this $500 scholarship will be announced on Friday, May 4, 2018.
J.A. Wilson, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
CB&T is proudly offering the J.A. Wilson, Jr. Memorial Scholarship for students pursuing a degree in agricultural studies as an ongoing tribute to our friend and colleague, Jerry Wilson, who passed away on January 28, 2017.
The application deadline for the 2018 Scholarship will be Friday, April 13, 2018. The winner of this $1,000 scholarship will be announced on Friday, May 4, 2018.
