NASHVILLE, Tenn (April 7, 2021) – Songs for Sound, a Nashville-based outreach and service charity working to protect and restore hearing for the 400 million people worldwide who suffer from hearing loss, is thrilled to announce their first annual Hearos Pull for veterans with hearing loss.
The clay shooting tournament will take place on May 1, 2021 from 10am – 3pm CST at the Nashville Gun Club. The day will conclude with the top three teams winning prizes followed by a reception with members of the United States Army.
This tournament will raise support for Songs for Sound to continue to help veterans regain their ability to hear through the use of hearing aids and cochlear implants. Both services are often fully covered for veterans with VA benefits, but a process the Songs for Sound team knows can be confusing and wants to assist veterans so they can better navigate through the system.
The founder of Songs for Sound, Jaime Vernon, has always held a special place in her heart for our military with both of Jaime’s nephews being veterans themselves.
“65% of all age veterans, 85% of senior veterans do not pass (refer to an audiologist) after we test them through our Hearoes Program. Many veterans have access to care through VA benefits but most of them don’t know how to navigate hearing health in the VA system. That is where Songs for Sound comes in as we can educate, counsel, and build trusting relationships with our veterans which is our difference. We provide resources and further support until they are hearing again” said Jaime.
Songs for Sound’s “Hear the Music Project” serving all Americans and the “Hearoes Program” serving veterans and military administers free hearing screenings, assists with audiology referrals, and teaches ways to prevent noise induced hearing loss. The project has given nearly 26,600 free screens so far, with 6 in 10 Americans referred for further audiology. The referral rate is much higher for veterans at 8 in 10.
