Greenview Cemetery is a somewhat abandoned cemetery off of Rocky Bump Rd., near Ft. Pickett. There is a gentleman who has decided to honor those buried there by cleaning it up, righting toppled headstones, cleaning debris and overgrowth in the cemetery. He is looking for volunteers to help with the project. He has experience with cleaning up lost and damaged cemeteries and has a crew helping him.
This cemetery has been talked about at Town Council meetings and Board of County Supervisors over the last couple of years, but no one has stepped up to the plate to take charge of righting this wrong. We finally have a gentleman who has decided to do so! He is looking for people to do a lot of different jobs out there, from cleaning debris, pulling weeds, righting the toppled headstones, spreading gravel on the road, feeding the volunteers, manning the aid station, to signing in volunteers. He will be working with the Town of Blackstone to chip small branches and wants to cut down trees into firewood for the needy.
What does it say, when an outsider steps in to fix a wrong that the county should have done years ago? On Saturday, May 15th -Armed Forces Day – volunteers can meet out there at 8AM to tackle this project. Visit the Greenview Cemetery Project Facebook page and sign up to help! Remember – many hands make light the work. When you sign up, you can order a t-shirt to wear and 100% of the sale will go to the project.
